L is for Land of Living Skies: A Saskatchewan Alphabet by Linda Aksomitis

Coming soon! While we’ve had delays along the way, L is for Land of Living Skies: A Saskatchewan Alphabet is getting closer to being a real book, rather than just a series of poems and pictures.

A new book coming is always exciting, but L is for Land of Living Skies: A Saskatchewan Alphabet is special in many ways. My illustrator, Lorna Bennett, is finishing up the illustrations, so I’ll soon get to preview the galleys and see how Lorna has combined art with the rhymes and information I’ve included about this amazing province I live in.

Since I’m also a photographer, this has been a wonderful partnership, as I’ve been able to send Lorna hundreds of photos about the places I’ve included, to add to the photos she was able to take on her own research trips. The photo above, of Regina, is one that she was able to draw from to combine with her ideas for the illustrations.

Picture books, especially ones like L is for Land of Living Skies, take a unique collaboration from numerous people in addition to Lorna and I. We each have an editor, plus an art director to pull the book together. Working with everyone at Sleeping Bear Press has been an amazing experience with input from so many creative people who want the best for this brand new picture book!

Right now we’re looking at mid-October for a release date, if everything progresses smoothly. That will be just in time for my October book tour of Western Saskatchewan during Library Week and Education Week!

Stay tuned for the “official” release date and to find out where you can get a copy.
