Writing for the Web is no longer the “future” of publishing–it’s the reality. When I started out here, way back in in 1997, the Web was still way taking baby steps through the Triassic period. Today, the Web is the place to be, whether you’re publishing an opinion piece or the latest in news. We even have search engines that report your writing on a second-by-second basis from social media sites.

In fact, I feel that a website presence has the power to make or break a writing career these days!

That’s good news if you’re not making a lot of headway with traditional publishing, whether you’re submitting short pieces to glossy magazines or book manuscripts.

One of the most exciting things I’ve found with publishing for the Web is that combining my words with other types of media has never been easier. For example, here’s an infographic that takes you from clay tablets to the Web, shared from Visual.ly.
