Ebooks have come a long ways since 2002 when they had just 0.05% of the marketplace! So, it’s likely no surprise that the technology behind ebooks has also come a long ways.
This infographic introduces you to the three types of ebooks we see today.
The good news is that you can create your own ebooks in any and all of the formats. You just need to have a different ISBN or product number for each one, so the bookstores can deliver the format the buyer needs for the electronic device they plan to read it on.
If you want your book to reach the most readers, you’ll need to focus on the reflowable formats, as those are by far the most widely read–mainly because there are the most e-reading devices out there for them.
PDFs have very limited appeal to readers, because they’re not fun to read on anything but a computer monitor or laptop. For anyone doing content marketing from your own website, though, you’ll find PDFs are the number one format of choice because they’re easy to create with your word processor. All you have to do is “save as” a PDF or “export” to a PDF, depending on the software.
And responsive? Well, they’re king for intricately formatted books like picture books or highly illustrated nonfiction books.
