L is for Land of Living Skies: A Saskatchewan Alphabet

L is for Land of Living Skies: A Saskatchewan Alphabet by Linda Aksomitis

L is for Land of Living Skies: A Saskatchewan Alphabet was published in the fall of 2010 by Sleeping Bear Press. The book was written by Linda Aksomitis, a Saskatchewan author, and is illustrated by Alberta artist, Lorna Bennett. Its format includes full page artwork, a poem for each letter of the alphabet and a sidebar giving more information about the illustration and poem’s content.

The book combines many of Linda’s skills and experiences as a writer. It’s her first book of poetry, although her publishing career started with a poem called “Play” when she was 10 years old, which was published in the Western Producer’s Young Co-Operators’ pages. Linda went on to have more than 50 publications in the Western Producer, most of them poems.

Linda has been a travel writer and photojournalist since 2001, plus has published a number of nonfiction and fiction books during that period. L is for Land of Living Skies provided the perfect opportunity to showcase many of Saskatchewan’s treasures that she explored while writing the nonfiction book, Backroad Mapbook Southern Saskatchewan (2006).
